In celebration of Mahesh Babu’s 51st birthday, SS Rajamouli decided to unveil the actor’s first look for the upcoming film, “Varanasi”.

On 9 August, the filmmaker posted two images of the actor in character as Rudhra, one showing him in profile against the African savannah, while another of him reclining on what looks like a bamboo raft.

“Fierce isn’t his only shade… RUDHRA in #Varanasi,” Rajamouli captioned.

It is noted that Mahesh plays two characters in the movie, as the protagonist Rudhra and Hindu god Rama.

In a note shared via the film’s official social media account, the director stated, “Rudhra was born to fulfil a purpose much larger than himself. He carries a destiny he did not ask for. He is witty, he is vulnerable, and he is fierce. That is what Mahesh brought to him. Anyone can play fierce. Very few can play fierce and fragile in the same breath,”

The movie has previously been filmed in the Kilimanjaro region as well as Maasai Mara.

Prior to Mahesh, Rajamouli also shared the first look images of Priyanka Chopra as her character Mandakini to celebrate the actress’ birthday back in July.
