Malaysian Family Organizes Surprise Reunion For Indonesian Helper With Her Daughter
Facebook

A Malaysian family has warmed hearts online after surprising their Indonesian domestic helper with a visit from her six-year-old daughter, whom she had not seen for more than three years.

The emotional reunion was shared on Threads by Puan Elisya, who said her helper, Itri, had spent years caring for her children while being separated from her own daughter in Indonesia.

The video shows Itri appearing surprised before suddenly realising who is standing in front of her. She then breaks down in tears as she hugs her daughter for the first time in years.

For many viewers, it was a simple but powerful reminder of what migrant workers can give up when they leave their families behind to work overseas.

She Left While Her Daughter Was Asleep

According to Puan Elisya, Itri had previously told her about the difficult decision to leave Indonesia for work.

Her daughter was only three years old at the time.

Knowing how painful the goodbye would be, Itri reportedly chose to leave while her daughter was still asleep. She did not want to see her child cry as she left.

From then on, Itri spent more than three years away from her daughter while working in Malaysia.

During that time, she cared for Puan Elisya’s children and became more than just an employee to the family.

Puan Elisya said she saw Itri as another mother — someone who was also missing her own child while taking care of someone else’s.

That was one of the reasons she wanted to do something special for Itri.

Her Daughter Finally Comes To Malaysia

Puan Elisya and her family arranged for Itri’s daughter to travel from Indonesia to Malaysia for the surprise visit.

When they finally met, the little girl was no longer the three-year-old child Itri had left behind.

She was now six.

The reunion was captured on video, showing Itri’s shock slowly turning into tears as she realised her daughter was there.

Puan Elisya later explained that she had some extra money and decided to use it to bring Itri’s daughter to Malaysia.

For her, it was a way of thanking Itri for taking such good care of her children over the years.

The family also recorded the moment so the mother and daughter could keep the memory for years to come.

More Than Just A Viral Reunion

The video quickly caught the attention of online viewers, many of whom were touched by the emotional meeting.

While the reunion itself was heartwarming, the story also shines a light on the reality faced by migrant domestic workers across the region.

Many leave their own children and families behind so they can earn money and support them from overseas.

For Itri, more than three years of separation ended with one unexpected visit.

What started as a surprise planned by a Malaysian family became a precious moment between a mother and daughter — one that both of them had been waiting years to have.
