Family Says Goodbye
Lionel Messi and his family went on Sunday to the Cementerio Parque El Prado, on the outskirts of Rosario, to bid farewell to Jorge Messi, the Argentine player’s father, who died on Saturday at the age of 68.
Recorded images show part of the security operation deployed outside the cemetery, where fans left messages of solidarity and condolences for the Messi family. Antonela Roccuzzo, Lionel’s wife, is also seen greeting some of those who attended.
Private Farewell Ceremony
The captain of the Argentina national team did not enter through the main gate, but used an alternative entrance to avoid contact with the press and to take part in the private ceremony alongside relatives and close friends.
Access to the grounds was also restricted and the use of drones in the vicinity was banned to prevent aerial images of the burial. The measure sought to guarantee the family’s privacy during the farewell.
Messi Returns Home
Messi arrived in Rosario from the US on Saturday night, accompanied by Antonela Roccuzzo and their children. He later went to the cemetery to be with his family in the early hours of the farewell.
Father’s Football Legacy
Jorge Messi was a key figure in the footballing career of the Argentina captain. As his father and agent, he accompanied the player from his beginnings in Rosario and played a central role in managing his career, including his move to Spain to join FC Barcelona.
