A woman named Sophia shared a TikTok video after she said a man followed and harassed her while she was travelling on the Singapore MRT.
In the first video, Sophia can be heard telling the man to walk away as he stood close to her. She said she felt uncomfortable because he had been staring at her and moving closer despite her asking him to stop.
She Explains What Happened
Sophia later posted a follow-up video explaining the incident.
She said the encounter happened on July 23 while she and two friends were travelling to Paya Lebar to explore cafes. During the train ride, she noticed the man repeatedly staring and smiling at them.
According to Sophia, the man later moved closer to her inside the train. Feeling uncomfortable, she directly asked him to stop staring because it was making them uneasy.
When they reached their stop, she and her friends tried to separate from him. However, Sophia said the man followed her to the escalator.
She claimed he stood very close behind her and asked for her phone number. After she rejected him and told him to move away, she said he continued approaching her.
Call For More Awareness
After the incident, Sophia decided to record the situation because she felt it could make him leave and warn others about his behaviour.
Many viewers supported her and said people nearby should have stepped in to help. Viewers urged Sophia to report the incident, saying MRT staff and CCTV footage could help investigate.
Others shared similar experiences of feeling unsafe in public. Sophia said she chose not to report due to past experiences where she felt ignored, so she shared her story to raise awareness instead.
