Despite the mixed reviews, Stephen Chow’s “Kung Fu Soccer” continues to make bank at the box office in China, as it enters its second weekend.
The film, which made RMB 500.3 million in its first couple of days, has now added another RMB 501.1 million in the country, bringing a total of over RMB 1 billion (approx. USD 214.3 million) in just nine days.The film marks the return of Stephen Chow as a director following the 2019 “The New King of Comedy”. It was released just in time for the 25th anniversary of its predecessor, “Shaolin Soccer”.

It stars Zhang Xiaofei in the lead as the team captain, with Dilraba Dilmurat playing the star striker and Lay Zhang as the kung fu coach.
Other big names who joined the film in guest appearances include Carina Lau, Takeru Satoh and Jimmy O Yang.
