Workers Discover Suspicious Materials
A construction project in southeastern Poland has led to a major police investigation after workers uncovered what appeared to be medical waste buried in the garden of a residential property.

The discovery happened in the village of Lutoryż at a house that previously belonged to a medical pathologist. Workers raised the alarm after noticing unusual materials in the soil, prompting authorities to step in and secure the area.
Search Uncovers 34 Foetuses
Police later carried out a full search of the property using cadaver dogs and ground-penetrating radar.
During the operation, investigators recovered the remains of 34 human foetuses, either full or partial, buried across different parts of the site. They also found thousands of microscope slides, paraffin blocks, and fragments of medical documents.
Officials said the materials were believed to be connected to medical testing, though the exact purpose is still under investigation.
Doctor Taken In For Questioning
The former owner of the property, a 57-year-old medical pathologist identified as Magdalena H., was taken in for questioning by police.
She was later charged with desecration of human remains, improper handling of waste, and illegal disposal of hazardous materials. If found guilty, she could be jailed for up to 12 years.

Prosecutors said she admitted to burying the foetuses and provided details on their origin, but has not formally entered a plea.
She remains in pretrial detention as the investigation continues.
Investigation Continues
Local reports, citing unnamed sources, said she allegedly removed the remains from a hospital where she worked during the COVID-19 pandemic for testing purposes at home. Authorities have not confirmed these claims.
DNA analysis is now underway to identify the remains and determine whether other individuals were involved in handling the materials.
Prosecutors also stressed there is currently no evidence linking the case to illegal abortion activity.
