USA Opens World Cup With Victory
Players of the United States national team expressed satisfaction after a strong start to their World Cup campaign on home soil, defeating Paraguay 4-1 at Inglewood’s Los Angeles Stadium on Friday.

Footage shows home supporters arriving at the venue wearing US scarves and jerseys, entering the stadium complex, and posing for photos. Several activists were also present near the stadium, displaying US, Iranian, and Israeli flags in protest against the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Balogun Thanks American Fans
After the match, Folarin Balogun spoke in the mixed zone, expressing gratitude to supporters for their support following his decision to change his international allegiance from England to the United States. He thanked them for their trust in him, especially after he scored twice late in the first half.

“I just want to continue to show the fans, you know, I made the right decision <…> I want to, you know, continue to make the fans proud as well,” the footballer said.
“I felt like it was a real statement, you know. And that’s what we wanted to do, you know. So I’m very, very delighted with the overall performance but especially in the first half,” Balogun spoke about the match.
Pulisic Praises Team Performance
‘Captain America’ Christian Pulisic echoed the sentiment, praising the team’s first-half performance, which secured a 3-0 lead before the break.

“One of the better halves we played, and you know, continued strong at the end <…> And all in all, just an incredible start. There’s a lot more that we still have to do,” he shared.
USA Tops Group D
Two goals from Balogun, a goal conceded by Paraguayan defender Damian Bobadilla, and an injury-time goal from Gio Reyna ensured the victory for the United States. The only goal for Paraguay was scored by Mauricio.
The US move provisionally to the top of Group D, while Paraguay sits at the bottom. Turkey and Australia are set to face each other on Sunday in Vancouver, Canada.
