The content creator, @calrosong, has recently urged Singaporeans to participate in a brief game. It consists of converting English slang to Singlish. The participants had a fun time interpreting, although some needed a while to understand the slang in general. Regardless, the game was enjoyable to play, and the creator did it for high engagement within the Singaporean community.
What Is The Game About?
@calrosong approached participants for a brief Q&A session on the interpretation. The first one was translating “she’s ugly” to her (CMI), a brief abbreviation to give them a hint. Singlish slang reflects the language’s uniqueness and fruitful input, showcasing the diversity among English-speaking Asian countries. It translates to “cannot make it” at the conclusion, implying that the person cannot meet the beauty standards. In retrospect, it is another way of broadcasting the uniqueness of multiple languages blended altogether.

The creator spent time speaking with other participants to interpret back and forth, and they expressed interest. Because the Singlish language is made up of many other languages adapted into English, it has become a melting pot of Hokkien and Chinese slang.

Some viewers expressed delight in having Singlish as their own thing, while others contended that it is a “dialect” or “Hokkien.” But, at the end of the day, the culture’s depth is evident in Singlish interpretation.
Different Nations, Same Laughter
The creator @calrosong cleverly used this twist to illustrate Singaporean identity via Singlish terms, where Hokkien and Chinese influencers merged into shortened English idioms. And such instances can be observed even in America, where diverse groups use their own slang and acronyms.

At its core, the video surpasses more than just an internet joke. It proves humor connecting strangers across cultures. Some viewers understood the abbreviation immediately while others needed a hilarious lightbulb moment, but the shared laughter remained the same. No matter the language, race, or background, everyone eventually found themselves in on the joke and that’s what made the content universally entertaining.
