This week, firemen in Malaysia put this to the test, showing there’s no such thing as a tiny or too strange a rescue.
One day on a tranquil afternoon, a large black and white cow fell into a narrow concrete drainage ditch. Unfortunately, the animal got stuck between the walls and was unable to move around or get out on its own.
A Rescue Mission Gone Wrong
Upon arrival by the fire company, they discovered the cow was very tightly trapped. The ditch was a deep, narrow one, and the rescue was therefore quite difficult. The cow appeared exhausted and distressed, but the rescue team quickly managed to keep the animal calm. They were aware that they would be required to be careful not to injure the cow when attempting to pull it out.
The firefighters used specialized equipment to help the animal. They first positioned carefully under the cow’s belly heavy-duty orange straps. In a large animal rescue, this is a common method used because it is an even load-bearing method. They also used a water hose to rinse off the mud and slippery material so it would be easier for the cow to find the footing while cleaning.
Teamwork Saves The Day
A number of officers coordinated to pull the straps. A lot of effort and persistence were necessary. The firefighters were careful to move slowly to make sure not to frighten the cow. The event was attended by a large number of people who were waiting for a positive outcome. With perseverance and cooperation, the team was able to lift the cow up.
When it returned to level ground, the cow needed a few moments to get its balance. Surprisingly, the animal did not seem to have any serious injuries. The team quickly checked, and the cow was able to stand and walk away towards a nearby field.
Safe And Sound
The rescue was a successful one as the cow walked off, much improved from an hour before. Local fire trucks stayed by as officers packed their equipment. This is a successful mission that demonstrates that fire departments are not only extinguishing fires, but they are also always ready to assist any creature in need.
