Caught in crossfire – Child hurt after Secret Service exchange fire with armed suspect

Shootout Near the White House

US Secret Service, DC police and National Guard were seen following a shootout between officers and an armed suspect near the White House on Monday.

Secret Service claimed they had shot a man who opened fire on them -while a bystander, reported to be a child, was also hit. It was not confirmed as to whether they had been hit by gunfire from the suspect or the officers.

The motive was still under investigation at time of publication. The bystander was said to have ‘non-life-threatening’ injuries, while the status of the gunman was also unclear.
