A heartwarming story has captured the attention of many people in Singapore recently. A local family decided to surprise their domestic helper, Abegail, for her 34th birthday. Instead of a simple celebration at home, they took her to an authentic Filipino restaurant at Roxy Square. This special gesture was planned by her employer, Denson, who is 30 years old. He wanted Abegail to feel closer to her home country on her big day.

Abegail is not a new face in the household. She has worked as a domestic helper for ten years in total. However, she only joined Denson’s family in Singapore in July 2025. In a short period of time she has become very close to the family members. Not only do they consider her an employee, but they also consider her a member of the family.
A Special Connection
Perhaps one of the most endearing aspects of this story is the relationship that Abegail has with Denson’s father. She has spent many hours caring for him since she arrived. Over the last couple of months they have developed a very special friendship. This relationship was evident during the birthday dinner. It was a celebration of their friendship and love for each other.

After finishing their main meal, the family had another surprise for her. They had baked a birthday cake. Abegail was so surprised and pleased she started to cry. These were tears because she was feeling so touched. To her surprise, the old man started crying too. He knew that Abegail was very happy and felt it was worth crying because he loves her.
Feeling Close To Home
It was important for the family to eat at a Filipino restaurant. They understood not being home on your birthday can be sad for many maids. Eating her favorite Filipino food made Abegail think of her family and her home. Denson mentioned that he hoped the familiar tastes and smells would make her feel less homesick.

This celebration shows a very positive side of the relationship between employers and helpers in Singapore. The evening ended with many smiles and happy memories for everyone involved. Abegail’s 34th birthday is now a day she will likely remember for a very long time.
