A 43-year-old man in Kedah, Malaysia, has been arrested in a serious domestic abuse case that left his wife injured and caused a miscarriage. Police say the suspect had been married nine times and is believed to have chosen civil servants as his partners because of their stable income.

The case has raised concerns due to the suspect’s repeated marriages and his past criminal record. Authorities confirmed that he currently has three wives, while six others are former spouses. All of them were reported to be working in the public sector.

Police reveal motive

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said early investigations showed that the suspect did not have a steady job. Because of this, he is believed to have chosen women with stable government employment.

“The suspect chose partners with stable jobs because he does not have a stable income,” Adzli said during a press conference. He also described the suspect as someone with a hot temper and a history of violent behaviour.

The victim suffered serious injuries

The latest case involves a 39-year-old woman who was allegedly assaulted by her husband at their home in Ambangan Heights, Sungai Petani. The incident came to light after the victim’s brother filed a police report on April 23.

The victim later made her own report on April 26 after suffering severe pain. Medical examinations showed she had injuries across her body, including bruises, broken ribs on both sides, and a fractured spine. Doctors also confirmed that she had suffered a miscarriage.

The suspect was arrested at a homestay in Alor Setar shortly after the reports were filed. He has been remanded for seven days until May 5 to assist with the investigation.

Past cases and investigation

Police confirmed that the suspect was involved in a previous case in Johor, where he was accused of assaulting another woman. In that incident, the victim fell into a coma after the attack.

Authorities also said the man has 11 children and several past records involving assault and threats. Investigations are ongoing as police gather more information about his past marriages and activities.
