More than 400 volunteers gathered across two of Singapore’s major coastal green spaces this morning for the Beach Clean Up Drive 2026. Organized by 24asia, the initiative saw participants descending upon Pasir Ris Park and West Coast Park to tackle marine litter and promote environmental stewardship.

The four-hour event, which ran from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, saw a diverse mix of participants from different racial and religious and diverse background many of whom were first-time local and Migrant Workers volunteers. The drive aimed not only to remove physical waste from the shoreline but also to raise awareness about the long-term impact of plastic pollution on Singapore’s marine biodiversity.
A Unified Effort for Sustainability

Braving the morning humidity, volunteers (ranging from corporate groups to student organizations) successfully collected an estimated 274 kilograms of waste, including plastic bottles, discarded fishing gear, and microplastics.
“Today’s turnout demonstrates the growing commitment within our community to protect our natural heritage, “said Abdul Rahman, spokesperson for 24asia. “By bringing people together at both the East and West ends of the island, we want to send a clear message: a healthier future for our oceans starts with collective nation’s action. We are grateful to our partners like Temasek Foundation and the Red Bull for making this large-scale coordination possible.”
Voice of the Community
The event saw a diverse mix of participants, many of whom were first-time volunteers and Migrant Workers.
“It’s eye-opening to see how much small debris gets washed up on Singapore shore lines, even in parks that look clean at first glance,” said Mr. Nazmul Khan, a participant at the Pasir Ris site. “Being here with my friends makes me realize that we all have a role to play in keeping these spaces beautiful for everyone to enjoy.”

Another young volunteer and organiser at West Coast Park, Ms. Rebecca Tang said, she managed to coordinate and bring almost 90 volunteers from four different organizations like Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Rotaract Club, Environmental Rangers Club & Red Cross Youth Chapter.
She believes it was good opportunity to mingle with both migrant and domestic workers, and make new friends first time doing community service.
Beyond the Beach
To keep spirits high, partners provided essential support throughout the morning. Gardenia supplied refreshments for the volunteers, while Red Bull ensured participants remained energized during the intensive cleanup efforts.

The data collected regarding the types of waste found by Stridy App, will be shared with environmental partners to help inform future waste management strategies and educational campaigns. 24asia and its partners hope that this drive serves as a catalyst for more frequent, community-led environmental initiatives throughout the year.
Another student from ITE Central Stella, 19, shared her first time beach cleanup experience, “I learned a lot from today’s event working along with other youths and It’s important to take care of our environment, need more people’s to help” she added.
