Campaign Nears Goal, But Time is Running Out
Baby Faziq’s fight against Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) has drawn tens of thousands of donors—but the journey is not over yet. His fundraiser on Ray of Hope has raised S$1,937,416.70 out of S$2,440,451, bringing the campaign to 79 per cent completion.

That leaves more than S$500,000 still needed, with just over a month remaining before the deadline.
The campaign, which began on January 5, has already been supported by over 31,000 donors. But for Faziq, every day without definitive treatment carries risk.
A Narrow Window for a Lifesaving Treatment
Faziq was diagnosed with a severe form of SMA, a rare genetic condition that weakens muscles over time by damaging the nerves that control movement.
Without early intervention, the disease can gradually affect essential functions like breathing and swallowing.
Since birth, he has been on daily oral medication to slow progression. While the treatment has helped him gain milestones, it is not a cure and must be taken long-term.

Doctors have recommended Zolgensma, a one-time gene therapy that targets the root cause of the disease.
When administered early, it offers the best chance to halt further muscle damage. But the treatment costs over S$2.3 million and is not covered by subsidies.
A Childhood Full of Small Joys
At just under a year old, Faziq is described as an active and cheerful baby. He spends his days watching children’s programmes, playing with a ball, and chasing after his siblings in his walker—often bumping into furniture with excitement.

During his first Hari Raya, he was dressed in a tiny Baju Melayu, surrounded by family. To those around him, he looks like any other happy child—curious, playful, and full of energy. But behind those moments is a race against time to preserve the strength he still has.
A Family That Has Been Here Before
Faziq’s parents are fighting not just for his future, but against a past they know too well. They previously lost a child to SMA before advanced treatment options were available.
Now, with a therapy that could change the course of the disease, they are working to secure a different outcome for Faziq—before symptoms begin.
Every Contribution Brings Him Closer
With over S$500,000 still needed, the coming weeks are critical. The campaign continues to gain support, but the remaining amount stands between Faziq and the treatment that could stop the disease in its tracks.
For now, his laughter fills the home. His small steps in a walker mark progress. And for his family, each donation is a step closer to ensuring those moments last.
