Popular South Indian actor and politician Vijay’s wife, Sangeeta Vijay, has filed a petition to end their 27-year marriage. The divorce petition has been filed in the Chengalpattu District Court in India. 48-year-old Sangeeta mentioned in her petition that their marriage was first registered in the UK on July 10, 1998. Later, on August 25, 1999, the marriage ceremony was officially performed according to Hindu religious rituals at Rajah Muthiah Mandram in Chennai.

Although they lived together for a long time, it is claimed that their relationship deteriorated recently. The matter is currently pending in the court.
Beginning of the Relationship
The petition states that the first few years of their marriage were quite peaceful. At that time, Sangeeta focused on taking care of the family and children. The couple has two children, a son and a daughter. They have rarely revealed their personal life in public for a long time.
Sangeeta especially always preferred to stay out of the discussion. As a result, many considered their married life to be stable.
Allegations of Extramarital Affairs
However, according to Sangeeta’s allegations, in April 2021, she came to know that Vijay was in a relationship with an actress. The petition states that this matter deeply traumatized her. Initially, Vijay had assured her to end the relationship. But later, it is alleged that the relationship continued.

As a result, Sangeeta claims that she has been subjected to mental torture and humiliation. She also said that these incidents have created a major crisis in their family life.
Failed Reconciliation
Sangeeta said that several attempts were made to fix the relationship. Various discussions were held from September 2021 to February 2022. Then again, attempts were made to reconcile between August 2024 and February 2025.
However, no permanent solution was found in these initiatives. Sangeeta claims that now their relationship exists only on paper. Therefore, she has sought permission from the court to divorce.
Legal Claims
In addition to the divorce, Sangeeta has made some legal claims to the court. She has demanded permanent maintenance, which is said to be commensurate with Vijay’s income and social status. She has also sought permission to stay in Nilankarai’s marital home until the case is resolved.

As an alternative, she has also demanded an arrangement of equivalent accommodation. At the same time, a request has been made to conduct the proceedings of the case in secret to protect personal dignity.
Film Controversy
Meanwhile, there has been a controversy over Vijay’s new film, ‘Jana Nayagan.’ The film was initially planned to be released on the occasion of the Pongal festival. However, the release has been postponed indefinitely due to the censor board not getting its approval. The board suggested some changes in the film.

Later, the matter was also sent to the review committee. In the end, the production house withdrew the court’s application and decided to accept the board’s decision.
