Wine - Bring Your Own Food at Straits Wine Allows Friends to Share Their Favourite Dishes and Experiment Pairing Them with Straits Wine’s Extensive Wine Range
After two decades of actively engaging customers and deepening their wine and dine experiences, Straits Wine Company announces the return of one of its most fondly remembered initiatives, Bring Your Own Food (BYOF), at its UE Square and Balmoral Plaza outlets, starting 6 February 2026.
BYOF at Straits Wine
BYOF reflects Straits Wine’s commitment to the creation of memorable moments and experiences with wine for friends, colleagues, families and is part of the group’s refreshed direction as its 20th anniversary approaches. Introduced over the years in various formats, BYOF was one of Straits Wine’s most distinctive in-store experiences where guests are invited to bring their own dishes, from home-cooked favourites to local takeaways, and pair them freely with wines from Straits Wine’s carefully curated collection.
“By allowing customers to bring their favourite local food or share their home-cooked creations with friends and experiment with wine pairing from Straits Wine’s extensive collection, each customer was able to recreate extremely personal wine and dine experiments and experiences,” says Ms Puwaneswari Naidu, co-owner of The Straits Wine Company.
“No one else. literally in the world, will be able to say Mr Leong’s Beef Stew goes very well with Pranzegg GT Vino Bianco from Alto Adige region, except for that special closed-knit group who managed to share that moment. After 20 years, we have learned that the most meaningful wine experiences are the ones people create for themselves.”
A Moment of Bonding
Over the years, the BYOF initiative drew groups of friends, families, and colleagues who treated the occasion as a social ritual. Menus were planned, tables filled quickly, and guests often stayed on to explore new wines together. Dining together naturally encourages wine discovery, enabling guests to taste more widely and share perspectives while enjoying food that feels personal and familiar. Straits Wine hopes that with the revival of BYOF, it will once again be able to reignite the love of sharing, communal dining and camaraderie, with the discovery of new wines and flavours.
The return of BYOF reflects Straits Wine’s continued focus on experiential retail as it enters its next phase. One of Straits Wine’s missions under the new ownership is to extend partnerships with young winemakers, who are innovative in their approaches to winemaking.
“It is much easier to try more wines when you are in a group. In this way, when customers get together in groups, we, at Straits Wine, will also be able to introduce new small batch, artisanal winemakers and provide them a platform to win over new customers,” adds Ms Naidu. “This is where our legacy lies – with our decades of experience in winemaking all the way through to retail, as leaders of industry, we will be able to support the next generation, ensuring the industry stays relevant, and sustainable.”
Event Details
The BYOF initiative will be available daily at Straits Wine’s UE Square and Balmoral Plaza outlets during regular opening hours, following these guidelines:
- Food Charge Waiver: With a minimum spend of S$60 (inclusive of GST and service charge) per person on wines or food from Straits Wine’s menu, food corkage will be waived. A nominal food charge of S$10 per person will apply if total spend is below S$60 per person.
- Dining Policy: Food and seating are subject to house guidelines.
- No Time Limit: Customers may BYOF all day and enjoy them in comfort at Straits Wine’s UE Square and Balmoral Plaza outlets from opening till closing. If the outlet is busy, we do seek the kind understanding of our customers to make way for others who may also want to enjoy the experience.
