Visitors at Beijing Zoo were delighted on 12 December when giant panda Meng Lan was seen enjoying Beijing’s first snowfall of the season. Instead of hiding from the cold, the popular panda rushed outside to play.

Covered in soft snow, Meng Lan slid down a playground slide, rolled across the ground, and moved around with clear excitement, creating a cheerful scene that quickly caught attention.
Snowy morning brings special moment
The snowfall arrived early in the morning, covering the zoo with a thin white layer. As staff opened the panda area, Meng Lan stepped into the snow without hesitation. His black-and-white fur soon became lightly covered with snow, making him look even fluffier.

Meng Lan climbed onto a small playground slide built inside his enclosure. He slowly sat down and then slid to the bottom, repeating the action several times as visitors watched closely.
Slide becomes panda’s favorite spot
Meng Lan did not stop sliding once. He climbed up again, turned his body, and slid down in different positions. At times, he rolled in the snow at the bottom of the slide and then stood up to shake himself.

The panda also spun around in the snow, clearly enjoying the cold weather. His movements were smooth and energetic, showing how comfortable he was in the winter environment.
Visitors enjoy the joyful scene
Many visitors gathered near the enclosure, quietly watching the panda’s playful actions. Cameras and phones were raised as people tried to capture the moment. The sound of soft laughter could be heard as Meng Lan continued to play.
Some visitors stayed longer than planned, waiting to see what he would do next. The snowy setting made the moment feel special, turning an ordinary zoo visit into a memorable experience.
A familiar star at Beijing Zoo
Meng Lan is already well known among zoo visitors for his lively personality. He is often active during the day and enjoys using playground equipment. The first snowfall gave him a new way to express that energy.
Zoo staff observed from a distance, allowing the panda to enjoy the snow freely. The playground area remained safe and calm throughout the morning.
Snowy joy spreads online
Short videos of Meng Lan playing in the snow were shared widely later that day. The clips showed him sliding, rolling, and walking confidently across the white ground. The simple joy of the moment quickly spread beyond the zoo.
As winter begins in Beijing, Meng Lan’s playful snow adventure has become one of the season’s most heartwarming sights, bringing smiles to both visitors and viewers watching from afar.
