This July, No Other Land — the Oscar-winning documentary chronicling the forced displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank — is getting a rare screening in Singapore.
The Projector will show the film on 12, 16, 20, and 26 July 2025, as part of its “Real to Reel: A Documentary Showcase” series.
The screening is a bold, and necessary, move. The film cannot be licensed for theatrical release here, and is being shown only through limited, community-led sessions.
55% of ticket sales will be donated to The Palestinian Scholarship Initiative, which supports Palestinian students for four years of university education in Singapore, covering tuition, lodging, and living expenses..
A Film Many Won’t Touch

Despite winning Best Documentary Feature at the 2025 Oscars — and more than 45 awards globally — No Other Land has struggled to find a distributor. In the US, no major cinema chain would pick it up. A Melbourne cinema cancelled a fundraising screening after receiving threats against the venue.
Even in Germany, officials labelled the film as having “anti-Semitic tendencies,” despite its joint creation by a Palestinian and an Israeli filmmaker. Israeli military physically attacked and detained one of the film’s directors, Hamdan Ballal, following the Oscars.
What’s It About?
Shot over five years, the film follows Palestinian activist Basel Adra and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham as they document life in Masafer Yatta, a region in the West Bank under threat of demolition by Israeli authorities.

Through personal stories and unflinching footage, No Other Land captures the human cost of occupation — homes destroyed, families displaced, and voices silenced.
Critics praise the film not only for its urgency but also for how it brings together a Palestinian and an Israeli in a rare cross-border collaboration. At the Oscars, co-director Abraham declared: “Together, our voices are stronger.”
Why It Matters in Singapore

While other countries have bowed to pressure, Singapore’s The Projector is one of the few venues globally to screen the film, even in a limited capacity.
Known for its independent, socially conscious programming, The Projector is using the event to raise funds and awareness for Palestinian education.
