A video of a Malaysian schoolboy telling his teacher that he attends school only to meet his girlfriend went viral on social media around 27 May, drawing widespread amusement and criticism.
In the short clip, the child confidently stated he came to school to see his girlfriend and not to study.
The teacher, who appeared surprised, questioned his motives, and the exchange quickly spread across platforms.
The incident prompted online debate about parenting, discipline, and classroom behavior with some blaming the boy’s attitude on a lack of proper upbringing.
Boy Clarifies Context in Response Video
Shortly after the video went viral, the boy recorded a sincere video to clarify the context.He identified himself as the child in the footage and explained that he had resolved the issue captured in the viral clip weeks earlier.
He said the recording was made during a classroom exchange that followed his failure to bring a textbook.
‘One day, I was studying. The teacher came to me and asked me to take out my book. I told the teacher that I didn’t bring it (I hadn’t bought the book yet). After that, the teacher asked me why I came to school if I wasn’t going to study, and she kept repeating the same question.’
The teacher allegedly brought up a past issue involving a girl. The boy said this caused him to feel embarrassed, leading to his defensive response — which was the only part captured on camera.
He noted that the teacher did not record her own words, which he believes presented the situation unfairly.
Issue With Classmate Allegedly Settled
In the explanation, the boy stated that a prior “love case” between him and a classmate took place two months earlier and had already been addressed by both sets of parents.
He described the recent classroom incident as unrelated to that matter, but said the teacher referenced it again, which he found inappropriate.
“That’s why I got angry and talked back to the teacher. If you were in that situation—being humiliated—you would feel angry too.”
The boy consinued that one of his classmates likely shared the video without his knowledge or consent. He added that the situation had already been resolved by the time the clip began circulating online.
Addressing Public Criticism of Family
The boy also addressed the backlash against his family, particularly comments directed at his parents.
He clarified that he was raised by his single mother alone, and believes she brought him up well.
‘To anyone blaming my parents, let me say this: My parents raised me well. There’s nothing lacking in my upbringing. I don’t have a father, only a mother.’
He attributed his tone and language to peer influence, rather than poor parenting.
