“Split Second Getaway”: Russian Motorist Escapes Cop by Driving Off in Half a Car

Car Splits in Two During Police Stop

A regular traffic stop in Yelabuga, Tatarstan, took a bizarre turn on 23 April, when a driver tried to flee by separating his car into two parts. Oddly, the suspect successfully drove off in the front portion.

In the now-viral dashcam video, the orange car pulls over as a police officer rushes toward it.

Just as the officer opens the door to confront the driver, the car suddenly detaches at the middle, leaving the rear behind as the front section speeds off.

Vehicle Was Modified to Split on Command

Local media reports suggest that the car was intentionally modified to separate at the push of a button, a trick not expected in real life. The unusual modification allowed the driver to temporarily escape, leaving the officer behind and confused.

However, the joyride did not last long. The front half of the vehicle eventually broke down, and police quickly detained the driver at the scene.

His identity and the reason for the initial stop have not yet been made public.

Social Media Reactions: “Straight Out of a Cartoon”

As expected, the bizarre footage blew up on social media platforms, with users flooding comment sections with disbelief and humour.

The clip has amassed millions of views across TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), garnering attention for the cartoonish feat.

Police Yet to Reveal More Details

While the video has entertained netizens globally, officials are now investigating how the car was modified and whether any laws were violated beyond the attempted escape.

For now, the incident stands as a bizarre and oddly creative example of just how far someone might go to avoid a ticket.
