Cristiano Jr Joins Portugal U15 Squad
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, the 14-year-old son of football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, has taken a significant step in his young career after receiving his first call-up to Portugal’s Under-15 national team. The teenage forward, affectionately called Cristianinho, is part of the squad competing at the Vlatko Marković International Tournament in Croatia from May 13 to 18.

Ronaldo Jr, now training with Al-Nassr’s youth team in Saudi Arabia, is one of 22 young talents picked by Portugal U15 head coach João Santos. His call-up marks a proud milestone as he follows in his father’s footsteps, rising through the youth ranks at Real Madrid, Juventus, and Manchester United.
A Proud Debut Against Japan
Cristiano Jr made his international debut in Portugal’s 4-1 win over Japan on May 13. Coming off the bench in the second half to replace teammate Abdu Cassama, the youngster stepped onto the pitch at Sveti Martin Na Muri in Croatia. Although he didn’t start the match, he entered to cheers and sparked excitement both on and off the field.
His grandmother, Maria Dolores Aveiro—who often attends Ronaldo Sr’s matches—watched proudly from the stands. She shared a message of support on Instagram before the game, wishing good luck to the U15 squad.
Ronaldo Sr Applauds Son’s Achievement
Cristiano Ronaldo Sr, who turned 40 in February and continues to lead Portugal’s senior team, publicly celebrated his son’s milestone. “Congratulations on your debut for Portugal, son. Very proud of you!” he posted on social media.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has often spoken about his dream to share the pitch with his son before retirement. While acknowledging that this goal now lies more in Ronaldo Jr’s hands, he remains hopeful about the possibility, provided he stays fit and his son remains committed to the sport.
Cristianinho’s Early Successes
Despite his age, Ronaldo Jr has already built an impressive youth career. Earlier this year, he captained Al-Nassr’s U13 team to a title win in the Saudi U13 Premier League. Prior to that, he reportedly netted 58 goals in a single season with Juventus and played alongside Kai Rooney, son of Wayne Rooney, during his time at Manchester United’s academy.

Born in San Diego, California, Ronaldo Jr had the option to represent the United States or Spain. He ultimately chose Portugal, a decision influenced by his father’s legacy with the national team.
Next Matches and Upcoming Challenges
Next up in the Vlatko Marković tournament, Portugal’s U15 team will take on Greece and England. Cristianinho may see more minutes on the pitch when Portugal took on England in a highly anticipated clash on 16 May.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo Sr is getting ready to lead Portugal’s senior team in the UEFA Nations League semifinal against Germany on 4 June. At the club level, Ronaldo is set to return for Al-Nassr’s match against Al-Taawoun on May 16, after missing their 9-0 win over Al Akhdoud earlier this week.
As Ronaldo Jr begins his own international journey, fans and pundits alike watch closely, wondering if the day will come when father and son wear the Portugal shirt side by side.
