On March 12, a shocking scene unfolded in the Comilla region of Bangladesh when locals gathered at a lake after spotting what appeared to be a floating body. The lifeless figure was lying on its back, leading many to believe it was a drowning victim.
A local man rushed into the water, dragging the body to the shore, where others began performing CPR, assuming the boy was dead.
The Unexpected Twist
As the crowd worked to revive the boy, a surprising turn of events occurred. The teenager suddenly opened his eyes, smiled, and sat up, visibly embarrassed.
It was revealed that he had not drowned, but had been sleeping on the water’s surface.
The boy had been floating in the lake for about an hour, his arms and legs unmoving, which contributed to the initial confusion.
The Boy’s Identity
The teenager, later identified as a beggar from Comilla’s Dharmasagar Park area, often traveled around while begging. His unexpected appearance in Chandpur, however, remains unclear.
After his “rescue,” the boy was questioned by curious onlookers, and several people filmed the unusual scene, which quickly spread on social media.
Viewer Reactions
The incident garnered attention from locals, with many viewers expressing a mix of amusement and disbelief.
I live in a country where I cannot stay upset for even 1 minute!
It was sad at first, but then I laughed a lot.
You’ve completely ruined his peaceful slumber 🤣🤣
Others comment on knowing the teen, identifying him as a menace in the area he had come from.
Please don’t send him to Cumilla anymore, he has frustrated everyone in the parks and colleges in Cumilla. He even broke my glasses.
Please keep him in Chandpur, after you are done keeping him there, send him to Noakhali. But please don’t send him back to Cumilla.
People of Cumilla know him very well 🤣
In Chandpur, they thought of him a water sprite (referring to a folktale) 🤣
Another user amusedly commented why the teen could have pulled this stunt.
People either sleep on the ground or on the bed, what kind of sleep is slept in the water… I understand he is heavy, and chose to cool himself off by going in the water.
How Does This Happen?
A living body can float on water due to buoyancy, which occurs when the body displaces enough water to create an upward force that counteracts gravity. The presence of air in the lungs makes the body less dense than water, helping it stay afloat and individuals with a higher fat percentage tend to float more easily.

Lying flat on the water, especially on the back, increases surface area and enhances flotation. Staying relaxed and breathing steadily helps maintain flotation, while struggling or panicking can lead to sinking, explaining the boy’s ability to remain afloat.
This bizarre event has left both locals and online viewers in awe of the teenager’s unexpected wake-up call.
