“I Just Wanted to Know What Kind of Underwear She Was Wearing” – Japanese Man Arrested for Allegedly Attempting Underwear Theft

A 34-year-old man from Tokyo, Japan, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal underwear and other items from the home of a teenage female employee he had seen at a cafe.

According to Totsuka Police Station of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Ryota Miyahara, a company worker residing in Tokyo’s Adachi Ward, was given an arrest warrant on February 19.

Attempt to Steal Underwear

Miyahara is accused of breaking into the young woman’s home in Shinjuku Ward on December 31, 2024.

He reportedly rummaged through her belongings, attempting to steal her underwear and other personal items, as reported by the MPD.

“I Didn’t Intend to Steal…”

Following this, Miyahara partially denied the charges. According to Mainichi, he told police, “I didn’t intend to steal. I just wanted to know what kind of underwear the woman was wearing.”

The MPD believes Miyahara entered the victim’s home approximately 10 times. He admitted he kept entering her home because it was ‘clean and sunny.’

During his break-in on December 31, he reportedly stayed for about two hours, watching a music program on television.

Duplicate Keys Found in Suspect’s Possession

Prior to the incident, Miyahara allegedly broke into a cafe’s office to get an employee’s address. He reportedly made a duplicate key using her key’s number to enter her home.

Police found five more duplicate keys, suspected to belong to other women’s homes. Miyahara was also previously arrested in January for allegedly trespassing into the cafe’s office.
