A recently rescued, underweight dog in Colorado became the center of an unusual medical emergency after eating an entire bag of Orbeez—small, colorful water beads used in children’s crafts. These beads, which expand dramatically when hydrated, swelled inside the dog’s stomach, causing severe gastrointestinal distress.
The dog’s owner quickly brought him to Animal Urgent Care Arvada, where an x-ray revealed the growing beads inside his digestive tract.
According to Shore News Network, the x-ray showed that only 25% of the Orbeez could be seen in the stomach. The other 75% were surgically removed by the veterinary team to avoid further complications.
Rainbow Poop and Viral Fame
Lauren, a vet tech at the clinic (@larenmciaren on TikTok), shared a video of the dog pooping out the Orbeez, with the owner’s permission. The video has since gained over 112.1 million views with 8.5 million likes, capturing the attention of viewers.
In the video, Lauren humorously documented the dog’s ordeal, showing how the tiny beads made their way through the dog’s system, resulting in what can only be described as ‘rainbow poops.’
She also added in her Tiktok caption, “Just another day in the ER” indicating that accidents happen and it is common for vets to encounter these incidents. Fortunately, the dog is now recovering, though still underweight, having only recently been rescued.
Comments and Reactions
The video quickly garnered attention with many users sharing their thoughts and concerns in the comments section.
Some remarked that the whole situation felt like it was straight out of a Skittles commercial, likely referencing the colorful appearance of the Orbeez and the dog’s “rainbow poops.” Another user also chimed in, supporting the statement.
However, not all responses were light-hearted. Some users expressed concern for the dog’s well-being.
One user pointed out that while the situation seemed humorous at first, seeing the dog’s ribs was worrying, indicating that the poor dog might have been quite hungry when it consumed the beads.
Others voiced serious concerns regarding the safety of Orbeez, with one comment stating that the beads are highly toxic if consumed. They sympathized with the dog’s situation, expressing that they would be extremely alarmed if it were their pet.
