In February 2024, Kristina Joksimovic, a former finalist in the 2007 Miss Switzerland pageant, was tragically killed in her home in Binningen, near Basel. Her husband, Thomas, is not only accused of her murder but also of attempting to conceal the crime in a particularly disturbing manner.
The Initial Incident and Confession
At first, Thomas told the police that he had found 38-year-old Kristina dead at the bottom of their stairs. According to Swiss news outlet 20 Minuten, he claimed that out of panic, he dismembered her body.
However, in March, Thomas confessed to strangling his wife, though he insisted it was in self-defense. Investigators, however, were skeptical of this claim. According to reports, the forensic evidence contradicted his story of being attacked with a knife, instead pointing to a pre-meditated and violent act.
A Horrifying Attempt to Hide the Crime
The details of what happened after the murder are difficult to comprehend. After strangling Kristina, Thomas used a jigsaw, garden shears, and other tools to dismember her body, as reported by Bz Basel.
He then put some of her remains in a blender and attempted to dissolve them using chemicals. Authorities described his actions as showing a “high level of criminal energy” and mentioned signs of “sadistic and sociopathic traits”.
Marriage Issues and Domestic Violence
Kristina and Thomas had been married since 2017 and had two young children together. Although their life on social media appeared happy, those close to them knew they had been having serious marital problems for months. Police records also revealed previous incidents of domestic violence, but the level of brutality that eventually occurred shocked everyone.
Besides being a beauty queen, she was also a successful coach, mentoring young models and aspiring pageant contestants.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation into Kristina’s death is still underway, and Thomas remains in custody. His appeals for release have been denied, and formal charges are expected soon. Forensic reports strongly suggest Kristina’s death was a premeditated murder, despite Thomas’s claims of self-defense. The lack of remorse he has shown throughout the process has left the Swiss public stunned.
