Tamotsu Shiiki, a 58-year-old former member of Japan’s House of Representatives, has been arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department on suspicion of sexually assaulting a junior high school student at a karaoke shop in Kabukicho, Shinjuku. Shiiki, who served two terms in the House of Representatives, has denied the charges.
Details of the Incident
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the alleged incident occurred on August 20, 2024. Shiiki and the female student, who is in her first year of junior high school, reportedly met for the first time on the street in Shinjuku.
They then went to a karaoke shop together, where the assault is said to have occurred. Shiiki has admitted to entering the karaoke shop with the student but denies any wrongdoing. This denial is corroborated by NHK, which reported that Shiiki admitted to going to the parlor but denied committing the act.
Ongoing Investigation
As of now, the Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate the details of the case. Shiiki, who was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 under the Japan Restoration Association, served two terms as a legislator.
