In a recent event, a woman known as Lulu, 33, tied the knot with Qichen, a man suffering from a grave disability, merely months after their initial online interaction.
From Online Connection to Real-Life Commitment
As per South China Morning Post, the interaction started with Lulu, from Guangxi Zhuang, commenting on Qichen’s Douyin video asking if disabled people could find love. Her emphatic “yes” led to a meaningful conversation with Qichen, 30, who reached out to her. Drawn by his intelligence and positivity, Lulu decided to relocate 1,600km to Anhui Province to be with him.
Overcoming Medical Challenges
Diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) at seven, Qichen faced significant challenges. DMD is a condition that leads to worsening muscle weakness in the skeleton and heart over time. It is a genetic disorder marked by progressive muscle degeneration, which had doctors predicting Qichen wouldn’t live past 18. However, Qichen had not only survived but also built a life filled with hope and love.
New Beginnings
Recovering from a recent divorce and feeling unappreciated by her parents, who preferred sons over daughters, Lulu found solace and comfort in Qichen’s support. Describing him as “like the warm sun,” she was initially taken aback by his physical condition as he could only move his head and thumbs when they first met. However, her admiration for his character remains.
Their wedding on June 25 was truly luxurious, boasting 80 tables of guests, a remarkable size even for Chinese celebrations. It was the start of a new chapter for both Lulu and Qichen. Lulu was warmly embraced by Qichen’s family, and his mother lovingly assured her that she would make up for her son’s limitations with her care and affection.
Building a Future Together
Now four months pregnant, Lulu looks forward to building a life with Qichen. His thriving online business, where he sells medicinal herbs to his 100,000 Douyin followers, ensures a stable income for his wife and his unborn baby. He reassures her that his genetic disorder, resulting from a mutation, will not affect their unborn child.
Widespread Support
Their love story has touched many hearts, drawing admiration and blessings from social media users. Comments celebrating their union flood their Douyin account, with people praising the couple’s genuine love and determination to live life on their terms.
