On June 17, 2024, a troubling incident unfolded at 75th and Broadway in New York City involving Sam Long and Ronit Pinto, the founders of Honeysuckle Magazine. Allegedly, women advocating for Palestinian rights were assaulted by the duo while tearing down hostage propaganda.
The incident and assault
The incident sparked widespread outrage when a video, initially shared by user @/fitsjp on Instagram, went viral on several other online platforms. @/fitsjp is known for advocating for Palestinian freedom. The video, accompanied by the caption, “Got assaulted and (the) property was destructed (comrade’s phone broken) by Zionists on 75th and Broadway while ripping hostages’ propaganda. Please help find these assholes.”
In the video, Sam Long is shown fighting with multiple women. Right at the start, he grabbed the scarf of the first woman (dressed in black with a red scarf). Ronit Pinto, who was with Long, also joined in when he attacked another woman (wearing a keffiyeh over her face). Pinto kicked the second woman in the ribs after Long put her in a chokehold and pushed her down, seemingly trying to get back what looked like Zionist propaganda she had removed earlier. Meanwhile, the first woman was trying to protect her friend from further harm.
Witnesses at the scene were seen to be recording and watching the incident unfold, seemingly afraid to intervene. Additionally, one of the victim’s comrade’s phone was broken from this altercation
