Steady lah! Before you pack your barang-barang and fly there… we got some inside scoop to make your trip confirm stress-free.
Brace Yourself for Airport Chaos
Amazing! Your tickets are booked and you can’t wait to get from humid Singapore to sun soaked Bali… just be prepared for the circus that will present when you arrive at the airport. Peak season has the airport run amok with confused tourists and a caocophany of honking vehicles. No fun.
I recommend booking a driver from your AirBnb host or using Grab to navigate to where you’re staying. Or if you’re renting a motorbike, you can get one delivered to the airport if you book with Bikago.
Confirm Traffic Jam
Bali is CROWDED during the holiday season. So traffic is going to be INTENSE.
If you’re going to be renting a scooter (the most popular way to get around in Bali) make sure you book ahead of time to secure a safe and reliable ride… no one wants break downs in the middle of hectic traffic.
And ALWAYS wear a helmet and observe road safety.
If you’re not a confident driver, opt for Grab during peak traffic hours. But if you do enjoy feeling the wind in your hair as you zip across the tropical island make sure you don’t forget…
Get Travel Insurance.
Sometimes can be suay one – so make sure you protect your downside okay!
Travel insurance is your best buddy when you’re off on an adventure. Especially when it’s peak season and crowded. So much more reason to make sure you are covered so you can enjoy your holiday without worrying.
Check out Safety Wing for affordable and comprehensive travel insurance cover.
Avoid Kuta or Seminyak
Kuta and Seminyak are filled with tourists from Australia and Europe during the end of year holidays. Head towards less (though it’s getting pretty crazy there too) popular spots like Canggu, Ubud or Uluwatu.
If you are heading to tourism heavy destinations make sure you’re vigilant for the pickpockets that they attract. Keep your belongings close and your wits closer.
Get an International Driver’s License
Due to the number of tourists flouting road law, driving scooters without motorbikes and as such endangering them, Bali road law states that you need to have an international license to rent a motorbike or car.
Not having one may mean being stopped on the street and having to deal with the police.
Don’t have one? Don’t worry!
Get one in a matter of minutes from the International Driver’s Association. And guess what it’s valid for several years.
Stay Connected with eSIMs
Sick of paying through the nose on international roaming charges? Check out Bikago Mobile – eSIMs specific to Bali. They work with local providers and offer a stable connectivity service from the minute you land. Activate your data with a QR code and beat the insane queue in the airport.
Visiting a few different hotspots during your trip? Check out different eSIM options that offer you one click connectivity at a budget.
Decompress with Sound Healing
Tucked away in spirtual center, Ubud, in the Pyramids of Chi is an amazing sound and light therapy machine that you absolutely need to try.
Accelerate your relaxation with experiences that combine the best of technology and neuroscience. Created by one of Bali’s most innovative immersive wellness spas this experience embraces new technologies to create integrated experiences that cultivate holistic wellbeing.
Their expertise in music and haptic vibration technology augments the sound healing journey in a way I have never experienced before.
Retreat Into Silence: Shut up for a Second
Everyone knows Bali as this fast paced tourist hub, but when you head out into the highlands there are several places to reconnect with the Bali of a decade ago.
Escape the bustle of the city and embrace complete silence. Visit the Bali Silent Retreat for some time in meditative contemplation.
Party the Night Away in Canggu
Perhaps all that meditation and wellness isn’t quite your speed and you let off steam by raging into the night.
Bali doesn’t disappoint there either.
Check out Finns Beach Club or The Lawn Canggu for daytime shenanigans and transition to the evening to Vue Beach Club.
If you enjoy a more commercial flavour, you may prefer hitting the nightclubs in Seminyak or Kuta.
Get a Strong Dose of Balinese Culture
Bali, the Island of the Gods, is renowned for its stunning temples. Among the must-visit temples, the Uluwatu Temple, perched on a cliff with panoramic ocean views, is a mesmerizing sunset spot. Tanah Lot Temple stands tall on a rock formation in the sea, creating a surreal sight at high tide. The Tirta Empul Temple offers a sacred bathing experience in natural springs, believed to possess healing powers. And the Besakih Temple, known as the “Mother Temple,” is the largest and holiest temple complex in Bali, nestled on the slopes of Mount Agung.
Make Some Time for Uluwatu
Most visitors to Bali skip this gem, but there’s so much beautiful nature (and sooooo much less tourists) here! If you do make it out there, drop by the Istana for a day of sauna, steam rooms and cold plunges. And no shade to their kitchen which serve up hearty meals that take you straight to monk mode.
So these are 11 tips to help you get the most out of your trip to Bali! Bon voyage <3
Don’t forget to book a scooter ahead of time so you can secure a reliable and safe ride! Those tend to run out in high season (Nov – Feb).
