A video of a heated confrontation at a ZUS Coffee outlet went viral on social media, showing a customer throwing coffee at an employee on 9 November.

The incident has since drawn widespread attention online, sparking debates about customer behaviour and employee safety.
Chaos in the Café
The footage, which appears to start mid-argument, shows a female ZUS Coffee staff member asking a customer to leave the store. The customer, reportedly a foreign national, shouts:
“Why do I have to leave? I paid for my coffee!”
The customer then splashed coffee on the counter, throwing the cup at the employee’s hands. In response, the barista tossed the cup over the counter after the customer began shouting vulgarities and threw an object directly at her.

Netizens quickly rallied behind the barista, with many urging the company to take action and some even suggesting the incident could constitute assault.
ZUS Coffee Stands by Its Staff
In response to the viral video, ZUS Coffee issued a statement on 10 November, emphasizing its commitment to employee welfare:
“Since the incident occurred, we have taken the necessary steps to conduct a thorough investigation and we are standing with our Zurista through this time. Working in retail isn’t always easy, and things should never have escalated the way they did. At the end of the day, we’re all only humans doing our best.”

The company clarified that the employee involved was not terminated and is currently recovering:
“Our Zurista is currently recovering from this incident, we appreciate everyone’s kind assistance to allow her the space to recover, while we attend to the matter with care and fairness.”

ZUS Coffee also urged the public to respect the barista’s privacy, refrain from sharing videos showing her face, and avoid spreading false claims online:
“Please refrain from encouraging aggressive behaviour and spreading misinformation. Let’s be kind to one another, online and offline.”
Public Reaction
Social media users expressed outrage over the customer’s behaviour, praising the employee for keeping calm under pressure.

Many highlighted the importance of respecting service staff and warned against escalating conflicts in public spaces.

The viral clip has reignited conversations about workplace safety, customer conduct, and social media responsibility, with netizens calling for accountability on all sides.
