Children Were Walking Home When They Were Hit
On 1 May 2025, a man was arrested in Nishinari Ward, Osaka, after allegedly driving his car into a group of schoolchildren.

The incident occurred at 1:30 pm, as the children were making their way home from a nearby elementary school.

The suspect, 28-year-old Yuki Yazawa, is an unemployed man from Higashimurayama City in Tokyo, according to NHK.
He was arrested at the scene for suspicion of attempted murder.
One Girl Had a Broken Jaw, Six Others Slightly Injured
According to police, the seven children involved were all between seven and eight years old. A seven-year-old girl sustained a broken jaw while the remaining six boys had lighter injuries.
The Associated Press reported that all of the children were conscious when they were taken to the hospital.
The Suspect Admitted Intention to Kill
Yazawa admitted to purposely driving into the children. NHK, as cited by The Guardian, reported that he told police he was “just sick of everything” and decided to run into the elementary school students to kill them.
Following his confession, authorities are investigating the case as attempted murder rather than reckless driving.
Witnesses Say the Car Kept Moving After the Impact
Based on local reports, teachers who witnessed the crash reportedly pulled Yazawa out of the vehicle.
A mother in her 20s who had come to pick her son up said the car was moving chaotically and kept going even after hitting the children.
She also stated that the driver appeared “quiet and in a daze” until police came.

Another witness recalled that the car reversed after the first impact and struck the children again.
It is still unclear why Yazawa, who lives in Tokyo, was in Osaka on the day of the incident.
