On 22 April 2025, a nine-year-old boy from Eminence, Indiana, became an unexpected hero when he rescued a calf that was trapped in a creek.
Wyatt Ban was riding home with his mother, Morgan, after their breakfast when he noticed a mother cow behaving frantically near State Road 42.
Seeing this, Wyatt insisted that his mother turn the car around repeatedly. Although Morgan was initially unsure, she gave in to her son’s persistence and pulled over near a bridge.
Slipping Through a Fence to Help
Once they stopped, Wyatt asked his mother to stay in the car, confident he could fit through the barbed wire fence. He then carefully made his way to approach the distressed cow.

As Morgan watched, she quickly realized that Wyatt had spotted the cow’s calf, which had fallen down a steep creek bank and was trapped in the water.
A Careful Rescue Effort
Wyatt didn’t hesitate. He first ensured the anxious mother cow was moved out of the way to avoid any risk of injury. Then, he gently pushed the calf up the creek bank, carefully guiding it out of the water.

After freeing it, the mother cow was happily reunited with her calf. Morgan shared how she was amazed at how Wyatt instinctively knew exactly what to do in that moment.
Thanks to Wyatt’s quick thinking and insistence, the calf was safely reunited with its mother.
