After one of Colombia’s goals, attention shifted away from the pitch. A young Uzbek fan was seen crying in the stands, overwhelmed by the moment.

In response, Colombian supporters nearby began chanting “Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan” to comfort him. The gesture was spontaneous and quickly spread across the stadium atmosphere.

The moment gained attention online, not for the football itself, but for the simple display of kindness between opposing fans in the middle of a competitive World Cup match.
Match Overview
On Thursday, Uzbekistan faced Colombia in Mexico City during their World Cup debut campaign.
Despite a 3-1 defeat, the match became a milestone for Uzbekistan, as they scored their first-ever World Cup goal. Colombia led in the first half and controlled much of the game’s rhythm.

Uzbekistan equalised in the 60th minute through Abbosbek Fayzullaev, lifting their momentum for a short time. Colombia then scored twice soon after to seal the win.
Even in defeat, Uzbekistan showed excellent structure and moments of attack. Fayzullaev’s goal remained the standout moment for the team.
Uzbekistan’s football journey
Uzbekistan continues to develop with a mix of young talent and experienced players. Abbosbek Fayzullaev, already successful at youth and club level, represents the next step in that progression.

The team is growing under experienced leadership and is preparing for future tournaments like the 2027 Asian Cup. They see their World Cup debut as a starting point.
