Woman Who Saved Man’s Life at Kuching Airport Identified, Chooses to Stay Anonymous

Man Collapsed Moments After Domestic Flight Landed

A man who collapsed at Kuching International Airport and was revived by a woman performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has had his rescuer identified, nearly two weeks later.

At around 11.30am on Wednesday, 30 April, the incident took place in the domestic arrival hall of the airport.

According to NST, the 55-year-old man, known only as Mr Law from Sibu, had just arrived on a flight from Sibu when he suddenly collapsed.

The Man Had Been Experiencing Stomach Pain for Three Days After a Trip

Sharing this on Facebook, Dr Tang Sie Hing, a cardiologist currently treating Mr Law, said the man had been experiencing chest and stomach pain for three days after returning from a trip to China.

Though he underwent medical treatment on 29 April in Sibu, his condition worsened that night.

Still determined to seek help, he flew alone to Kuching the next morning. However, just moments after stepping out of the arrival hall, he collapsed.

Woman Acted Immediately and Did Not Hesitate

Fortunately, a young woman who was on the same flight witnessed the incident and rushed to his aid. She then started performing CPR right away and continued for nearly 30 minutes.

Mr Law was then quickly brought to the Sarawak General Hospital’s emergency department, where doctors ruled out a brain haemorrhage and diagnosed the case as a near-fatal cardiac event.

He was subsequently taken to Timberland Medical Centre for additional treatment.

Heart Procedure Revealed Two Fully Blocked Arteries

At Timberland, and at the request of Mr Law’s family, Dr Tang performed coronary angioplasty after a coronary angiogram revealed that two of Mr Law’s arteries were 100% blocked.

The procedure was successful, and Mr Law’s condition has since stabilised.

His family and friends expressed deep gratitude, saying the woman’s actions had likely saved his life.

Search Ends, But Woman Declines Recognition

On 10 May, exactly 10 days after the incident, Dr Tang confirmed that the woman who saved Mr Law had been identified.

According to Dr Tang’s updated post on Facebook, she is a staff member at Timberland Medical Centre and confirmed she had been on the same AirAsia flight as Mr Law that morning.

She was joined by a male doctor and other healthcare professionals at the airport.

Together, they took turns performing CPR while using the AED (Automated External Defibrillator), delivering a total of three shocks to resuscitate the man.

Despite the family’s hope to thank her personally, the woman chose to stay anonymous and declined any form of public recognition.
