Flood Triggers Massive Snake Escape
More than 800 snakes, including deadly cobras, broke free from a breeding farm in the Hengzhou area of China’s Guangxi region after heavy rains triggered severe flooding.
Rescue teams are currently working to help residents trapped by the rising water while authorities prioritize efforts to locate the missing reptiles.
Snakes Seen Swimming Through Flooded Streets
Online footage shows these animals moving through murky, high water areas. Because of this, officials are telling people to stay inside their homes and not try to catch the snakes themselves.
Specialized teams are using nets and other tools to round up the creatures. Citizens should remain alert and reach out for expert help if they spot any of the escaped snakes near their property or on the streets.
Typhoon Brings Deadly Destruction
This disaster began after days of intense rainfall linked to Typhoon Maysak. The severe weather has resulted in multiple deaths and has forced over 130,000 people to leave their homes across the Guangxi region. Large sections of infrastructure, including main roads and farmland, remain under water.
To support those who have lost their belongings, the government has moved more than 36,000 disaster relief items, such as tents, food, and medical supplies, into the affected area.
Medical Help for Snakebites
Local reports note that at least one person has been bitten by a snake and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. It is currently unclear if all bites came from the escaped farm snakes or from wild animals displaced by the storm.
Medical staff have set up mobile stations and boosted their supply of anti-venom to care for anyone who gets injured. As water levels slowly go down, teams are continuing their search for the remaining animals, warning residents to stay cautious until the area is confirmed to be clear.
