A heartwarming TikTok video of a toddler singing the chorus of Justin Bieber’s Baby alongside a Singaporean street musician has struck a chord online.
The man behind the mic is Harith Matin — better known as The Official Rex — a singer-songwriter and regular face in Singapore’s busking scene.
In the video, Harith, guitar in hand, smiles as a small boy — barely three years old — confidently sings along.
‘We could hear a lot of ‘awws’ from the crowd,’ Harith recalled in an interview with WUSG.
‘He melted a lot of hearts that day.’
It turns out the toddler is his girlfriend’s nephew — a fan of Harith’s who was eager to join in when the family came down to support one of his street sets.
Humble beginnings and a stage name born from gaming
Harith’s love for music began in secondary school, sparked by Bruno Mars’ Billionaire.
‘I played the guitar and sang ever since then,’ he said. His stage name, The Official Rex, was lifted from his old gaming username. ‘I just rolled with it.’

Harith blends influences from pop icons like Bruno Mars, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran, carving out a space of his own at Singapore’s vibrant street music scene
His performances, often around Orchard Road, draw crowds who sit on nearby steps, soaking in his smooth vocals and relatable covers.
A wedding gig — and a flight to Italy
One of Harith’s most unforgettable experiences came when a couple who had seen him perform at Christmas Wonderland asked him to play at their wedding — not just in Singapore, but again in Italy.

‘It felt mesmerizing to be performing in a foreign land and at the same time explore the beautiful country and culture,’ he said.
Busking, bookings, and original music
Though he still busks regularly, Harith also juggles paid bookings, managing his schedule to accommodate both. ‘It’s not too difficult,’ he explained.

‘Paid gigs are usually booked in advance.’
He writes original music too, including a single titled Butterfly, released on Spotify.

‘It was written for my beautiful girlfriend and I released the song on her birthday,’ he shared.
A solo hustle — but not without support
As an independent artist, Harith wears many hats — performer, promoter, and planner.
“It was a challenge to get my name out there and to get gigs at the start,” he said.
But social media has helped him build an audience, and opened up opportunities for him to perform.

‘It’s given me a platform to express my passion and connect with others who share the same love.’
His biggest supporters?
‘My family and girlfriend. And of course, the amazing people who show up to my gigs whenever they can.’

While he has no major plans announced yet, Harith hinted that more original music is in the works. “Do keep an eye out!”
