A small, Singaporean-run rescue shelter in Johor Bahru has issued an urgent plea for help after revealing that its funds have nearly run out.
The FourFeet Crib, which cares for more than 60 cats, three dogs and a terrapin, posted an emergency appeal on Instagram on Monday, saying it had received only S$1,519 and RM510 so far this month — far below what is needed to keep operations running.
The shelter said it has already spent close to RM8,000 (approximately S$2,523) on food, cleaning, veterinary care and other essentials in the first half of the month.

A Singaporean Who Stayed Behind for Her Rescues
According to the shelter’s fundraising page on GoGetFunding, Rozita — a Singaporean who has lived in JB since 2011 — began rescuing cats more than a decade ago. When the COVID-19 border closure began in 2020, she chose to remain in Malaysia to care for over 15 cats in her home, despite losing income as a self-employed worker.
Over the years, her rentals became a refuge for abandoned or injured animals. After multiple moves, rising costs, and the departure of earlier helpers, she now runs the shelter with a caregiving couple, Mages and Peter, whom she had helped when they themselves were homeless and living in unsafe conditions. They have since become the primary caretakers of the animals.
Harassment, Forced Moves and Mounting Bills
In 2023, the shelter was forced to relocate after a hostile neighbour repeatedly complained about odours and cat fur despite daily cleaning. Authorities were even called in with nets to catch strays around the neighbourhood.
The harassment escalated into a physical confrontation targeted at Mages and Peter, prompting Rozita to urgently find a new location again.
The shelter relies heavily on donations for food, litter, sterilisation, vaccinations, and ongoing medical treatment.
Monthly expenses average S$2,500 to S$2,800, excluding emergencies. Meanwhile, The FourFeet Crib says it is currently unable to cover basic supplies and is close to running out of food altogether.

The shelter stressed that even if readers cannot donate, spreading the message may help reach someone who can.
Shelter’s Fundraising Target: S$10,000
Their GoGetFunding campaign outlines a S$10,000 goal to cover relocation deposits, emergency costs, new cages, and two months of operating expenses. These include:
- RM8,300 (approximately S$2,450) in rental deposits and stamping fees
- S$2,500 for relocation and new cat furniture
- S$5,000 for two months of basic operating costs
Rozita also plans to sell merchandise like mugs, bags, decals and calendars to reduce reliance on donations in the long term.
For now, however, the shelter says it is in survival mode.
“The cats, kittens, dogs and our terrapin depend wholly on us,” Rozita wrote. “Your kindness keeps them alive.”
