On 22 March, unusual scenes unfolded across Thailand as thousands of citizens swarmed petrol stations. The stations had people carrying plastic cans, jugs, and large containers instead of the normal line of cars.

This burst has led to the feeling of urgency in most provinces, and many have questioned what was behind such a huge panic. The image of people flocking around fuel pumps has become trending in no time, casting doubt on the viability of the energy supply in the place.
Sudden Demand for Fuel
The demand started to be spurred in the early morning when the news of the possible rise of prices and shortages in supply started to spread. According to a video, the crowds were so big that station personnel found it difficult to control the crowds. Several individuals in nearby villages came to the village with several empty containers and hoped that they could keep as much petrol as they could before the stocks were depleted.

This act is an indication of a great fear by the masses about their daily transport and agricultural requirements. Owners of small business ventures participated in the queues in particular, as they feared that their businesses would come to a standstill due to a shortage of fuel.
Chaos at Local Stations
The environment was tense at different points where people were fighting to get to the pumps before others. The stations were forced to close their gates temporarily in order to control the huge number of customers. It is possible to observe police officers and local authorities at various places in order to organize the movement of people. The crowd did not thin out till late in the evening in spite of the heat and long waiting times. The witnesses reported the situation as a petrol race, where everybody had been occupied with ensuring that they had their own daily fuel supply.
Authorities Stay Alert
To the increasing panic, energy officials have intervened with the aim of clarification over the state of affairs. They assured the people that there was no reality of shortage of fuel in the national reserve and asked them to stop panic-buying.

Governments clarified that the rush per se leads to temporary stockouts at each particular station since the delivery truck could not meet the unprecedented demand. They recommended that people should resume normal purchases so that they can stabilize the market. In the meantime, the government has been keeping the situation under check in order to maintain the steady fuel distribution in all regions.
