Student Collapsed During Exam After Alleged Vaping
A 15-year-old student from a secondary school near Kangar, Perlis, suffered a seizure allegedly after vaping with friends in the school toilet on the morning of Monday, April 21, 2025.

According to Kosmo, the incident happened around 9.30 am, while students were sitting for an English examination.
The student had walked out of the classroom with his two other friends without the teacher’s permission.
Shortly after, the same two friends were seen carrying him back into the classroom, unconscious, with foam around his mouth.
Teacher Took Action, Ambulance Called
Another teacher who had taken over invigilating the exam noticed the student’s condition and immediately alerted the school administration.
According to Perlis Education Department director Rose Aza Che Arifin, the school quickly contacted an ambulance and the student’s family.

He was quickly taken to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah in Kangar for treatment.
Initial Investigations into the Vaping Incident
Initial findings suggest that the student was vaping in the school toilet with his friends just before the seizure.
However, the specific type of vape device or substance used has yet to be identified by medical personnel.

Following the incident, the Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) called on the authorities to enforce a complete ban on the sale of vapes and e-cigarettes.

CAP’s senior education officer, N.V. Subbarow told New Straits Times,
“We call on the government to take action. More delay in imposing a total ban on these items means more vape injury incidents in schools, as seen in Kangar yesterday,” he said on Tuesday.
Subbarow also pointed out the dangers of substances commonly found in vape liquids, including nicotine and propylene glycol, which can cause long-term damage to the lungs, heart, and brain.
School Toilets Often Used by Students to Vape
Furthermore, CAP said its surveys found that school toilets are often used by students to vape, despite school rules forbidding the practice.
“It is pointless to punish students who vape in the school. We need a total ban on the items. If nobody sells them, there will be no issue,” Subbarow said.
