Stolen Motorbike Spotted at Same Pump as Victim’s Search Ride
On 10 July, 2025, in a bizarre twist of fate, a man searching for his stolen motorcycle in the dead of night ended up confronting the thief—at the exact petrol pump he stopped at for fuel.
The confrontation led to a dramatic arrest and the eventual capture of an entire motorcycle theft ring operating in Bangladesh’s Baliadangi upazila, Thakurgaon.
The incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. on Thursday at the Mohammad Ali petrol pump, when the victim, exhausted from his all-night search using a borrowed motorbike, encountered the thief riding his stolen motorcycle.
Recognising the vehicle instantly, he and others at the pump physically restrained the suspect before handing him over to police.
Thieves Nabbed, Bikes Recovered
Police later identified the suspect as Noman Shaktiman, 22, from Mahishmari village. Acting on information gathered during interrogation, police arrested two more individuals later that morning—Mozammel Haque Mozam, 50, of Terkania village, and Surah Ali, 25, of Dekna Para. All three men are allegedly part of a gang involved in stealing and trafficking motorcycles across the region.
Following the arrests, authorities recovered two additional stolen motorcycles from the Duosuo Union area under Baliadangi police jurisdiction.
Community and Police Join Forces
The case came to light after the owner of the stolen bike alerted local police that the thief had been caught at the petrol station. Officers on night patrol immediately responded, arriving with local residents to secure the scene and detain the suspect.
Police confirmed that all three suspects are part of a coordinated network that has been stealing, reselling, and possibly altering motorcycles before pushing them back into the market. Authorities are currently investigating whether more individuals are linked to the ring.
Ongoing Operations Target Regional Theft
Officer-in-Charge Shawkat Ali Sarkar of Baliadangi Police Station said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle local criminal networks. He noted that coordinated community cooperation played a key role in the swift apprehensions.
Authorities say more operations are underway to track down additional suspects connected to the gang.
With three bikes recovered and key perpetrators in custody, locals hope the incident marks the beginning of a tougher crackdown on motorcycle theft in rural Thakurgaon.
