Snake Surprises Crowd at Kempty Falls
On 14 June, a peaceful afternoon at a major tourist destination in India turned into chaos after a snake suddenly entered a crowded waterfall pool. The incident was caught on video and circulated online, capturing dozens of tourists rushing to escape the water.
Located 15 km from Mussoorie at 4,500 feet above sea level, Kempty Falls attracts thousands of visitors during summer.
In the video, tourists were seen relaxing and playing in the water when the reptile appeared, gliding through the pool just inches from swimmers.
Videos showed people frantically climbing out of the pool with others shouting in alarm. Despite the fear, no injuries or snake bites were reported.
Snake’s Intentions Misunderstood
While visitors reacted in terror, experts noted that the snake likely had no intention of harming anyone. Footage reveals the reptile trying to flee rather than attack, suggesting it may have wandered in accidentally.
India is home to around 270 species of snakes, though only about 60 are venomous. Most snake encounters are not life-threatening.

Wildlife experts advise that when encountering a snake, it is best to remain calm, avoid sudden movements, and give the animal space to escape.
In many parts of India, especially rural and forested areas, sightings of snakes near water bodies and residential zones are not uncommon during warmer months. However, fear around snakes often lead to panic and sometimes unnecessary violence toward the animal.
Tourism and Wildlife Clash
The incident also reignited conversations about overtourism and its impact on wildlife. With popular destinations like Mussoorie seeing huge footfall, natural habitats are often disrupted.
Locals have previously raised concerns about littering, overcrowding, and noise pollution affecting both the environment and native species.
Kempty Falls, originally known for its colonial-era tea parties and natural serenity, now features shopping lanes, cable car rides, and packed swimming zones.
Viewer Responses
As tourism rebounds across India, the moment serves as a reminder that human-nature coexistence requires awareness, respect, and balance.
