A Small Gesture That Meant A Lot
A Singapore eatery has been quietly returning to migrant worker dormitories during Ramadan — not for promotion, but simply to make sure no one is left out.
In two recent TikTok videos posted just days apart, Smash Mamak showed its team visiting dormitories again after workers previously told them the food had run out too quickly.
Instead of moving on, they came back. This time, they made sure there was enough for everyone.
“We Didn’t Bring Enough The Last Time”
In the first video, the owner, Hashim, introduces himself and explains why they returned. He said that during their earlier visit, many workers kept asking if there were more food packets left. That moment clearly stayed with him.
So they decided to organise a second round. The team went back to the same dormitory and distributed meals again, hoping to reach more workers this time.
It wasn’t a big charity campaign or a publicity event. Just a group of people trying to correct something they felt they could have done better.
Returning Again During the Last 10 Days Of Ramadan
Just a day later, Smash Mamak posted another video showing them at a different dormitory, this time giving out 50 packets of chicken and mutton biryani for iftar.
The owner could be heard calling workers over warmly, telling them to bring their friends because there was enough food for everyone.
The video also showed him handing a worker $100 and asking him to give it to his son — a quiet moment that stood out to many viewers.
He ended the clip by encouraging others to give back during the last 10 days of Ramadan, reminding viewers that even small acts matter.
Many Online Praised the Effort
The comment section quickly filled with messages of support.
Some thanked the team for remembering the workers. Others said the effort felt genuine because they kept returning instead of treating it as a one-time activity.
Many simply wished the team well and hoped they would continue doing the same kind of work.
What is Smash Mamak?
Smash Mamak is a 100% Muslim-owned eatery located at Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2A. The restaurant serves Indian–Malay comfort food such as prata, thosai, murtabak, biryani, and goreng dishes.
But beyond food, the team says the business is also built around giving back.
According to the brand, a portion of their sales goes towards charitable efforts such as donating meals to migrant workers and old folks’ homes across Singapore.
The recent dormitory visits are not a one-off event either. The team has done similar meal-giving efforts several times before.
More Than Just Food
The videos did not focus on branding or promotions. Instead, they showed something simple: hot food, workers preparing to break fast together, and a small business trying to do what it can.
It may not seem like a huge gesture. But for workers spending Ramadan away from their families, something as simple as a warm meal — and someone remembering to come back — can mean a lot.
