Skydivers Discover the True Circular Shape of Rainbow During Stunning Descent

When most people look at the sky after rain, they usually see a rainbow shaped like a half-circle, or an arc, stretching across the clouds. But recently, a group of skydivers in the United Kingdom had the chance to witness something much rarer. Thousands of feet above the ground, they saw a rainbow in its true circular shape, floating like a colorful ring in the sky. The moment, recorded on video, has amazed viewers around the world.

In the video, originally by Paul Dewey via Storyful, the rainbow appeared over the British countryside as the skydivers plummeted toward the earth. The footage shows the full circle clearly, something that most people never get to see in their lives. For those lucky enough to be in the air, the rainbow revealed its complete and magical form.

Why the Rainbow Looked Different

From the ground, the rainbow always looks like a curved arc because the earth itself blocks the bottom half from our view. People standing on land or even on mountains can usually see only part of it. But in the air, things change.

When the skydivers jumped from their plane, they were surrounded by open sky. With no land blocking the view, the rainbow appeared in its natural form — a perfect circle of light. The video proved that rainbows are not just arcs in the sky but full circles created by light and water droplets.

The Magical Descent

The video was recorded by Paul Dewey with Skydive Langar, who were part of the skydiving team. As they fell toward the fields of the British countryside, the rainbow glowed brightly around them. It looked as if the skydivers were falling through a giant ring of colors.

For many viewers, the most striking part of the footage was how calm and natural the skydivers seemed, even though they were witnessing something extraordinary. The rainbow’s circle followed them during their descent, creating a once-in-a-lifetime visual experience.

Science Behind the Beauty

Rainbows are formed when sunlight passes through raindrops. The light bends, reflects, and then separates into different colors. Normally, observers see only a partial arc because the horizon cuts off the bottom half. But when seen from high above, with sunlight and raindrops at the right angle, the entire circle becomes visible.

This explains why pilots, paragliders, and skydivers are among the few who can witness a circular rainbow. The event is rare not because the shape itself is unusual, but because the correct conditions and viewing angle are hard to achieve.

Rare Moments Shared Online

Thanks to modern technology, rare moments like this can now be shared with millions of people instantly. The video quickly spread online, with many people expressing amazement. Some viewers even said the rainbow looked like a magical portal in the sky.

For scientists, the video serves as a reminder of natural phenomena that are often hidden from everyday view. For the rest of us, it offers a chance to appreciate the beauty and mystery of the world above our heads.

A Skydiver’s Unforgettable View

For the group of skydivers, this was not just another jump. It was an unforgettable moment that gave them a new perspective on something familiar. Rainbows are part of many cultures and stories, but seeing one in its full circle high above the earth made it feel completely new.

While most people will continue to see only half of the rainbow, this video shows us what is really out there. It reminds us that sometimes, changing the way we look at the world can reveal wonders we never imagined.
