Shifting Global Power Dynamics
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Western countries were losing their ‘leading positions’ to the Global South nations, with the global system undergoing ‘irreversible change’, during his video address to the participants in the Open Dialogue Forum on Tuesday.

“Previous approaches and established norms and rules of business and international relations are gradually becoming less effective, in part due to the actions of Western countries, which are losing their leading positions and giving way to new growth centres – the Global South countries. Right before our eyes, a more complex, multipolar architecture of global development is taking shape,” he said.
Sovereignty and Independent Development
He added that countries that can “determine their own development path, drawing on their own values, resources and priorities, identity and sovereign worldview” were now playing an increasingly active role on the political stage.
Call for Cooperation and Global Stability
“Clearly, no country can develop in isolation at the expense of other nations or to their detriment. Moreover, today’s global challenges require a coordinated response and joined efforts. Therefore, the global development model can be stable and just only when based on the principles of equality and mutual respect while taking into consideration the interests of all countries,” Putin continued.

The Open Dialogue Forum is an annual international event organised by the ‘Russia’ National Centre in partnership with the TRIM Centre of Expertise and with support from the presidential administration. This year’s topic is ‘The Future of the World. A New Platform for Global Growth’.
