A 42-year-old man was found dead in a hammock outside his relative’s home in Thailand’s Si Saket province in the early hours of June 5.

The man, identified as Phantawut “Keng” Pongsatja, was discovered by his 64-year-old relative, Wilai Sribunruang, at around 5 am.
She had woken up early that morning to prepare food for monks as part of a traditional offering and noticed Keng still lying in the hammock.
Relative Initially Thought He Was Asleep
Wilai called out to him but received no response. Assuming he was in a deep sleep, she continued with her morning routine.

When she returned to check on him later, she was alarmed to find his body cold and unresponsive. Realising he was no longer breathing, she immediately contacted local authorities.
No Signs of Struggle, But Found Marks on the Neck
Officers who arrived at the scene found no signs of a struggle or external injuries.

The only notable mark was a faint line around Keng’s neck, raising the possibility of accidental strangulation.

According to The Thaiger, investigators believe the pressure may have come from torn fabric on the hammock.

It is suspected that the material may have pressed against his neck for a prolonged period while he slept, restricting blood flow.
Possible Link to Deep Sleep and Alcohol Use
Medical personnel called to the scene supported the theory. They suggested that Keng may have fallen into a deep sleep, possibly due to alcohol, and remained in the same position for too long.
The sustained pressure on a blood vessel in the neck could have led to his death.
He Had Prior Health Problems and Drank Regularly
Wilai informed police that Keng regularly consumed alcohol and had several existing health issues, including acid reflux and occasional episodes of unconsciousness.
Reports stated that he had separated from his wife and returned to live with his elderly mother. It was confirmed that Keng was active in neighbourhood volunteer work and had no known personal conflicts.
