An 18-year-old restaurant assistant from Klang, Malaysia has been sentenced to one month in jail and fined RM5,000 (approx. S$1490) for concealing the birth of her baby, whose body was found in a toilet at Petronas petrol station in Sungai Besar, Sabak Bernam, Selangor.

Suspect Pleads Guilty to Charge
Nur Alieya Danisha Muhd Alif Subramaniam pleaded guilty to the charge at the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 10 April 2025.

She was charged under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which deals with concealing the birth of a child. The court ordered that she would be jailed for an additional five months if she failed to pay the fine.

However, she paid the full amount on the same day, which means she will serve only the one-month jail term instead of five.
Worker Alerted Police After Discovering Baby’s Body
The case came to light on 23 March 2025, when a petrol station worker found a baby’s body in the toilet bowl and reported it to the police.
According to Free Malaysia Today, preliminary investigations found that CCTV footage showed a woman entering the women’s toilet, accompanied by another woman.
Police later arrested Nur Alieya and her 41-year-old mother in Meru, Klang, two days later on 25 March 2025.
The mother was reportedly unaware of her daughter’s pregnancy.
Teen Said She Mistook Labour Pains for Menstrual Cramps
Nur Alieya told police she did not know she was pregnant and believed she was just experiencing menstrual cramps.

She said the baby was delivered unexpectedly while she was in the toilet. Panicked and in shock, she cleaned herself up after delivering and left the scene.
She Claimed She Was Assaulted by a Man She Just Met
She also claimed that she had been raped by a man she had recently met but did not tell anyone out of fear.
A post-mortem report found that the baby had died of mechanical asphyxia, with congenital heart disease as a contributing factor, according to the New Straits Times.
Court Took Into Account Her Age and Remorse
During sentencing, Magistrate Siti Hajar Ali said the jail term would allow Nur Alieya to reflect on her actions and serve as a warning to others.
“She is remorseful and regrets her actions. However, the court believes that public interest must be prioritized without disregarding the personal circumstances of the accused, who is still young,” the magistrate said.
She added that the sentence was meant to help the teenager rehabilitate and discourage similar cases in society.
Her Lawyer Requested for Leniency
Her lawyer requested leniency and told the court that Nur Alieya lived with her single mother and came from a low-income family.
He said she acted recklessly and was not thinking clearly at the time.
However, the Deputy Public Prosecutor urged the court to impose a strong sentence, stating that the case involved the death of an innocent baby.
She Began Her Jail Term on April 10
With the fine paid, Nur Alieya began her one-month jail term on Thursday, 10 April 2025.
