Get ready to be inspired by the creativity and imagination of pre-schoolers!
For the very first time, Mulberry Learning, a forward-thinking preschool in Singapore, will showcase a stunning exhibition during Singapore Art Week 2025.
The exhibition, titled Transformations, will feature 800 vibrant artworks created by children aged 3 to 6, highlighting their dreams for a better and more sustainable future.
This exciting event will be held from January 20 to 26, 2025, at VivoCity, Level 1, South East Boulevard, from 10 am to 10 pm daily.
And guess what? Admission is completely free! So whether you’re an art enthusiast or just someone curious to see the incredible ideas young minds can bring to life, Transformations is a must-see.
A Glimpse into the Future Through Children’s Eyes
The art exhibition marks a milestone for Mulberry Learning, as it’s the first time the preschool will be part of Singapore Art Week. What makes this showcase truly special is that the 800 pieces of art have been created using upcycled materials, a powerful message about sustainability and the importance of taking care of our planet.
Over the past three months, pre-schoolers were tasked with building models of their dream homes—homes that represent a brighter, greener future—using only recyclables like cardboard, plastic bottles, and old newspapers.
These artworks are more than just objects—they are a window into the boundless imagination and hopeful vision that children have for a better world. Each piece offers a unique perspective on how they see the future and their desire to make the world a cleaner, more sustainable place.
Through this initiative, Mulberry Learning is encouraging children to think critically about the environment while using art as a medium for self-expression. It’s an inspiring reminder that even the youngest among us can be powerful agents of change.
An Art Curriculum for the 21st Century
This exhibition is also part of Mulberry Learning’s new and improved art program, the Picasso Kidz™ curriculum, which aims to foster creativity and critical thinking in young children.
Research has shown that art plays a crucial role in a child’s development, enhancing cognitive, social-emotional, and sensory skills. Art encourages children to think outside the box, express their feelings, and develop problem-solving abilities.
Mulberry Learning recognizes the importance of integrating art meaningfully into the early learning experience. In addition to enhancing children’s creativity, the new curriculum helps them acquire essential 21st-century skills such as collaboration, communication, and innovation.
Going forward, the preschool is incorporating art into core subjects like English, Chinese, Math, and Science, blending creativity with academic learning to ensure that children grow into well-rounded, future-ready individuals.
Empowering Teachers, Empowering Students
Leading this change is Hamish Betts, Mulberry Learning’s new Curriculum and Training Manager in Art. With over 30 years of experience as a professional artist, Hamish is passionate about using art as a transformative tool in early education.
He believes that art allows children to communicate in ways that words cannot.
“Art knows no boundaries and needs no verbal language skills for interaction and self-expression to occur,” says Hamish.
His role involves working closely with teachers to integrate art into everyday lessons, empowering them to use art as a means of inspiring learning and discovery.
The focus at Mulberry Learning is on child-led expression, where children are encouraged to explore their creativity without the pressure of technical perfection. This approach helps young learners to expand their imagination and engage with art in a meaningful, personal way.
Mulberry Learning is more than just a preschool; it’s a place where children are encouraged to dream big and use their creativity to shape the world around them.
The Transformations exhibition is a celebration of these young voices, giving them a platform to share their ideas for a better future through art.
What to Expect at Transformations
The Transformations exhibition promises to be a dynamic and engaging experience. Visitors will be able to explore a range of artwork that speaks to sustainability, creativity, and the dreams of young children.
But that’s not all—Mulberry Learning will also host short art sessions during the launch and throughout the exhibition, where young children can create their own pieces of art under the guidance of trained educators.
These sessions are free and open to the public, but spaces are limited, so it’s best to arrive early!
For families and children visiting the exhibition, it’s a fantastic opportunity to get hands-on with art while learning about the importance of upcycling and sustainability.
Whether you’re an aspiring artist or simply looking for an afternoon of inspiration, there’s something for everyone at Transformations.
