“When ppl have to eat at traffic lights, something is wrong.”
The Video
TikTok user keniminaj published a short 7-second video that garnered more than 20,000 views within 2 hours.
In the short video, a motorcyclist who is clad in a white shirt, black pants and a red helmet can be seen hurriedly eating from a packet of economic rice (cai fan). He was at a traffic junction along Serangoon Road in the vicinity of Little India.
According to keni, the man on the motorbike “finished the entire packet” of economic rice at the traffic junction.
Although keni does not seem to know the man in the video personally, his caption read:
To the SG bosses who work their staff to death. Shame on you. When ppl have to eat at traffic lights, something is wrong.
Reactions
People who commented on the video can generally be separated into 1 of 2 camps. In the first camp, people shared the views of the poster as they too sympathized with the motorcyclist and felt that something was amiss. TikTok user asian boi drew parallels with their Malaysian’s colleagues who travelled in and out of Singapore daily and, thus, did not have much time to eat.
Another group of commentators opined that the keni was reading too much into the situation. They argued that the man could simply have been really hungry.
One user said that the man may have voluntarily decided to take on multiple jobs. Spookyteu responded to this comment by saying, quite rightly, that no one would decide to take on multiple jobs by choice.
