Motorcyclist Bypasses Railway Gate, Causing Wife to Get Struck by Barrier and Fall Off Bike

A Thai motorcyclist’s reckless move to bypass a railway gate led to an accident that left his wife injured on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

The incident occurred at a railway crossing near Wat Nang Nong on Wutthakat Road, Bang Kho district, Bangkok.

A Careless Decision

The video, shared by a Facebook user on April 22, 2025, widely circulated on social media. It shows the moment a motorcyclist bypasses a railway gate as it lowers to signal an incoming train.

While one motorcyclist stops to wait, the husband, in this case, ignores the barrier and attempts to ride through it.

He managed to duck under the lowering boom, but his wife, seated behind him, was struck by the barrier, causing her to fall off the bike and onto the railway track.

Husband’s Delay in Assisting Wife

Following the fall, the woman can be seen slowly getting up, appearing dazed.

Instead of immediately helping her, her husband took his time to collect items that had fallen from the bike.

Thankfully, the train had not arrived yet.

Injuries and Hospitalization

According to The Thaiger, the woman initially wanted to continue her journey to work despite feeling dizzy. However, her condition worsened.

She was later rushed to the hospital, where doctors treated her for a head injury and stitched a wound on her chin with nine stitches.

They also discovered internal bleeding, though her condition was not critical.

Will No Longer Ride with Her Husband to Work

Additionally, she stated that she would no longer ride with her husband to work and would take public transport instead.

Legal Consequences

ASEAN NOW reported that the motorcyclist could face legal consequences under Section 62 of the Land Transport Act.

This law punishes individuals who bypass railway signals or barriers, with penalties including up to

  • 10 years in prison,
  • a fine of up to 20,000 baht (approx. S$7,818), or both.

The motorcyclist may also be held responsible for damages to public property, which in this case is the barrier.

Bypassing a Railway Gate is a Criminal Offense

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has confirmed that bypassing a railway gate while it is lowering is a criminal offense.

Violators may face not only legal punishment but also have their driver’s license suspended or revoked.
