Chaos erupted at a Kuala Lumpur Light Rail Transit (LRT) station on Wednesday night (12th March 2025) when multiple loud bangs were heard coming from a train, causing passengers to scream and rush out in fear.
The incident, which happened around 10.40 pm, was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media.
Passengers Shocked As Loud Explosions Echo Inside Train
The viral video posted by Traffic Info Crew on Facebook showed passengers inside the train jolted by a sudden, loud bang.
Some jumped to their feet in alarm, while others screamed as confusion spread through the carriage.
Seconds later, another bang was heard, followed by flashes of light.
A video filmed from the platform showed smoke rising from underneath the train. As soon as the doors opened, passengers scrambled to exit.
LRT Operator Confirms Delays, But No Explanation Given
RapidKL, the operator of Kuala Lumpur’s LRT system, later acknowledged in a statement that train services on the Kelana Jaya Line were delayed due to a “technical disruption” between two stations: Universiti and Abdullah Hukum.

The disruption lasted until the end of operating hours, with alternative trains deployed to manage passenger flow.
By Thursday morning (13th March 2025), in another statement, RapidKL confirmed that services had resumed as usual.

However, RapidKL did not explain what caused the loud bangs.
Was The Heavy Rain To Blame?
With no official clarification, social media users have put forward their own theories.
Some believe that heavy rain earlier in the day may have affected the train’s electrical system, possibly triggering the loud bangs and flashes of light.
Another Train Incident Hours Earlier
Interestingly, this was not the only problem RapidKL faced that day. Earlier, at around 4 pm, a wall panel at Masjid Jamek LRT station collapsed due to heavy rain.

Fortunately, according to NST, no one was injured, and RapidKL assured commuters that the damage did not compromise the station’s structural safety. Cleanup and repair works were carried out immediately.

Authorities Yet To Provide Answers
As of now, RapidKL has not disclosed what caused the incident, leaving passengers concerned about their safety. While train operations have returned to normal, many commuters are still curious regarding the cause of the incident.
For now, the incident remains unexplained, raising concerns about whether similar scares could happen again in the future.
